What are landing pages good for anyway?

Perhaps you've read about them or know of someone who is having great success with them, but before you can learn how to really make the most out of your landing page, you have to know just what it is that makes landing pages so effective.

So let's go through a quick scenario: 

You click on an advertisement, a link on the web somewhere or in a newsletter, and you are brought to a page - the landing page. This page is the presenter, your potential customer's first glimpse at what it is that you have to offer. Displayed on this page should be necessary information that relates to the service or product that you are trying to sell. It is also a great way to get your readers interested in learning more detailed information, which would be readily available on your website.

Your incoming visitors will break down into the following categories:

Some people will leave after a few seconds...there always will be, that's fine.

Some people will read the page but not interesed in the moment...that happens as well. They may bookmark the page and come back later.

If your page is designed well there will be a group of people who are persuaded but can't finish the action...sometimes the right payment method isn't supported (always support as many as possible)

Finally there will be a group of people that are persuaded, can finish the action, and convert to customers. The goal of the landing pages is to find and convert these people.

Use Catchy Headlines 

So what do you have to do in order to make sure that your landing page is as good as it could be? One of the most important things is to make sure that you are using headlines that are attention grabbing. It is a fact that very few people actually read everything on an Internet page. People scan - quickly looking for the information that they need. They want to save time, not waste it.

Pay Attention to Sales Text 

You also want to make sure that you are writing sales text that is properly formatted and sure to grab attention. If you do not have experience in writing sales copy, then you might want to hire someone who does. It will surely be worth the investment. Some people even find that having video content on their landing page beneficial. This might be something to consider as well.

Images and Calls to Action 

Having product images on your landing page is also a great way to draw your potential customers in. When they are able to actually see what it is that you are trying to sell them, they will be more likely to actually want to know more about it. After all of this, you are going to want to place an effective call to action at the bottom of the landing page. This call to action is to drive your readers to click through to your website in order to learn more.

This page doesn't  need much to get it's point across. It's eye-grabbing, simple and compelling. Sometimes that's all you need for a landing page, but there are times where more contextual information is needed or a compelling video is more effective. If you are using landing pages to capture information and sell to your prospect later in an email then you are creating what it known as a sales funnel.

You want to make sure that you are taking advantage of what is known as the sales funnel system. This is a method of quickly and efficiently attracting many leads and qualifying them to then become prospects that are then converted right into paying customers. However, these are not just going to be customers that buy once and never come around again. No, our customers buy repeatedly over and over again. But you need to build the landing page first.
